Medical Assistant

Support physicians and patients by assisting with clinical preparation, documentation, communication, and daily clinic operations.

Position overview

SLMA is seeking a dependable and patient-focused Medical Assistant to support its primary care team in Houma. This position works closely with physicians, providers, patients, and administrative staff to help maintain an organized and efficient clinical environment. The ideal candidate communicates clearly, manages responsibilities accurately, and understands the importance of providing a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare examination rooms and patients for appointments
  • Record patient information and vital signs
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures
  • Update patient records accurately
  • Coordinate prescriptions, referrals, and follow-up instructions
  • Maintain clinical supplies and equipment
  • Follow patient privacy and safety procedures

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant certification or relevant clinical experience
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with patients and clinical teams
  • Experience with electronic health records is preferred
  • CPR certification may be required

Preferred experience

  • Previous experience in a primary care or outpatient clinical setting; familiarity with electronic health record systems.

Education requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.

License requirements

  • Medical Assistant certification and CPR certification may be required based on role requirements.
